About the Author
Raised on a family farm outside Powell, Nebraska in Jefferson County. An old ranch turned into a working farm which is typical of the Midwest. I attended a two room prairie schoolhouse from kindergarten through eighth grade. I was an average high school student who struggled with grammar and science but always found joy in history. Two years after my graduation, I joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Biddle (CG-34), traveling the world.
After six years of service, I pursued a civilian engineering career in the Washington D.C. area, where I contributed to the development, overhaul, and integration of combat systems for nearly every class of U.S. Navy ship, including aircraft carriers, battleships, cruisers, destroyers, frigates, hydrofoils, amphibious ships, and Coast Guard WHEC-class cutters. My work also supported ships sold by the United States to Iran (during the reign of the Shah), Germany, and Australia.
While working as a naval engineer, I returned to college, earning top grades in all subjects, though my wife says my grammar still has room for improvement. Married for more than forty nine years, I’m the father of four sons and grandfather to six grandchildren.
I enjoy reading history from ancient civilizations to modern times, writing, serving my local church, and spending time with my family. My definition of family includes every generation, from my own children to my grand children and to hopefully my great grand children. I also have a special affection for my cats: Bella, Rocky, and Bandit. Bandit, who recently passed away (March 2026), was an especially friendly character, reminiscent of Dewey, the Library Cat, of Spencer, Iowa.
After my retirement, I began writing books, which are slowly becoming available to the public.
My life, from farm to fleet, from engineer to my lovely family, My life has been guided by my faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ and by my trust in God’s faithful provision and wonderful works.
